About Us

Since it's beginnings over 40 years ago the club has gone through many changes to become what it is today. Starting originally as a breed club on the east coast it re-located to Lincoln in 1960 and was known as the Lincoln Alsation Association. The training groud was a piece of wasteland on Skellingthorpe Road where obedience classes were held on a Saturday morning. Two local policeman became interested in the club & with owners with breeds apart from GSD's wanting to train their dogs it was decided in the mid 1960's to change the name to Lincoln German Shepherd Dog & All Breeds Training Society (LGSD & ABTS).

There were a few people doing Working Trials independently from the club, and it was decided to hold Trials training classes on a Friday. Obedience shows were already being held but as the ground was not suitable these were held in old huts at the Sobroan Barracks.

In the late 1960's the Club moved to the site which has been it's home for over 30 years. Situated on the A57 Saxilby Road just off the Lincoln bypass, it was just a piece of ground with no facilities (again!!!!). Some enterprising members got together and bought an old barrack hut from the Sobraon Barracks and set to and erected what is still the club hut today. Most of the maintenance on the hut over the years has been done by club members who have given their time and skills free.

Members who were entering Obedience and Working Trials competitions were by this time doing very well and membership was growing.

In 1977 club member Pete Meanwell was approached to see if he could come up with an idea to fill in the gaps between judging at Crufts. Show jumping for dogs was the theme, so Pete and 3 other members of the club got together, designed a course and Agility was born. The first demonstration took place at Crufts the following year. The rest as they say is history!!

Obedience and Agility shows have been held on the club ground over the years. Working Trials shows were also held at club level with the first Oopen show being held on farmland at Welton. One Open and one Championship Working Trials are now held in March and November each year.
